This piece was my first attempt at Screen Printing. As my first project in serigraphy class, we were assigned the task of creating a composition using numbers and letters. My immediate thought was of the joke 'Why is 6 afraid of 7?". After experimenting with composition and color in my sketchbook,
I decided on my final design. I wanted the composition to reflect a terrified 6 cowering from a monstrous 7. To achieve this, I made the 7 the largest figure in the composition, and the 6 was a small, yellow figure hiding in the corner.
A, T, and E represent the trip through 7's digestive system, and the 9, having made it's way through the system, is laying at the bottom.
Because this was my first attempt at Screen Printing, I wanted to make things easier on myself and chose primary and secondary colors. Getting the technique down was my main concern during this process.
I feel I succeeded in many ways during this project. My lines were clean, my colors were strong, and the story was solid.
